Chapter Event: Orange County

Dr. Ivar Roth started his Expert Witness service in Podiatry in 1985 and has been involved in nearly 500 cases since. Ivar served two terms as the second FEWA President in 1996 and 1997.  We are honored to have him speak as to "What makes a Great Expert!" His experience and knowledge of the legal system as an Expert Witness will be filled with "war stories," tips for the Expert and how to present evidence.

Dr. Ivar Roth

Ivar E. Roth DPM/MPH started his professional Podiatric Surgical career in Newport Beach in 1985 after completing his surgical residency in Chicago, Illinois. Ivar was fortunate to have the best training in Podiatry when he started practicing by completing a three-year surgical program to which only 1% of graduating Podiatrists were accepted at that time. Along with his surgical training he also had the good fortune to mentor under Dr. Lowell Scott Weil, a world-famous Podiatrist, and his residency director at Mount Sinai Hospital in Chicago. Under the tutelage of Dr. Weil, Ivar was selected as the chief Podiatry surgical resident. Dr. Weil also trained Ivar to become an expert witness helping to review and discuss Dr Weil’s cases.

After receiving expert training during his residency, Ivar immediately started his career as a Podiatric Expert witness when he moved back to California. Over the course of his career he has been involved with and reviewed hundreds of cases for insurance companies, including the Auto Club of California, as well as large national and small regional insurance companies for foot and ankle claims. Ivar has also worked for malpractice companies and personal injury cases for both the defense and plaintiffs. He has worked directly with medical review insurance companies for claims review, giving him an insight into that field as well.

In the mid 1990’s, Ivar met Mel Friedlander, the initial founder of Forensic Expert Witness Association, (FEWA) and its first president, at a San Diego Forensic Consultants Association {FCA} monthly chapter meeting where they were both members.  From that point forward, he worked with Mel and other local forensic experts to start the Orange County Chapter, which later became FEWA. From the very beginning, Mel and Ivar’s vision was to make FEWA a national organization.  He was extremely active within FEWA, spending two terms as the second President until his twins were born.

Presently, Ivar is very active as an expert witness and has recently opened a new concept med spa, Concierge Podiatry and Spa in Newport Beach. Ivar’s twins are now 20 years old. Sam is a bioengineering major at UCLA and plans on joining his dad in practice and Ivara is at Tufts University planning to become a veterinarian. Ivar never plans on retiring because he loves his new spa, practicing Podiatric medicine and helping his forensic clients seek justice.
