E. J. Janik, CPA, CFF, CFE (Moderator)

EJ Janik has over 31 years of full-time forensic accounting services, including accounting, financial, economic, construction, fraud and business dispute consulting, with expert witness experience. He holds a Master of Science in Accounting from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Commerce from Rice University. Mr. Janik is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He has over 50 trial/hearing testimonies in 8 states: (9 Federal, 17 State, 22 Arbitrations), 82 total expert testimony matters. Over 700 business dispute and consulting matters, 150 financial audits (Public Accounting) and over 11 years of engineering and construction matters.

Mr. Janik is a Principal with Ryan Fraud and Forensic Recovery, LLC ("RFFR"). RFFR works extensively with law firms and corporations in forensic accounting, litigation, electronic discovery, and data mining. RFFR deploys a seasoned, multi-disciplinary global team of accountants, certified fraud examiners, former law enforcement and regulatory officials, economists, statisticians, and forensic technology specialists to provide dispute analysis and global investigative services in regulatory inquiries, litigation and FCPA matters.

1.) Jim Goodrich, CCIM, SRA, MAI

Jim Goodrich specializes in solving highly complex Residential Real Property Valuation Problems. Areas of expertise include current and retrospective forensic appraisals and reviews, USPAP compliance, evaluating possible stigma issues, construction defects, and other damages. Recently, Jim was retained as the lead appraisal expert in a national case for a large governmental entity. The scope of work included putting together a nationwide team of highly qualified valuation experts who provided very credible retrospective reviews and appraisals for the client. Jim has extensive teaching experience and is able to apply those communication skill sets to the litigation arena be it in the courtroom or in deposition. Jim has over 25 years experience and is a member of the Appraisal Institute with the SRA and MAI designations.

2.) Lezlee Liljenberg, CIC, CRIS, MA, PFR & Consultant

Lezlee Liljenberg entered the insurance business in 2004 as she started her first agency from ground zero, growing the business to over $6 million in revenue in less than 12 years.

Ms. Liljenberg holds a BA in Journalism/Public Relations and a MA in Political Science/Public Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington. She is a Professional Financial Representative holding licenses as 6 & 63 Securities, a Property & Casualty Agent, Life & Health Expert, and Texas Real Estate Broker.

She is well-known in the insurance and real estate industries for her responsiveness, knowledge, and professionalism in handling situations in both of these industries. Her 32 years of contractual knowledge is extensive and is strengthened by her years as a Commodity Electricity trader during Deregulation in 2001.

3.) Steven Bankler, CPA, Cr.FA, CFF

For over 30 years, national media (WSJ, Time, NBC, etc.) have published and broadcasted Mr. Bankler’s insights on forensic accounting. He has educated the public, the media, judges, and juries on complex issues. Steven Bankler has been intricately involved in high-profile legal proceedings that called for a forensic accountant, including the U. S. Senate’s Whitewater investigation and the U.S. Senate Banking Committee’s inquiry into Swiss banks’ involvement in holding Holocaust victims’ assets. Over the last several years he has been in demand as an expert in professional malpractice controversies.

4.) Luke Vermeulen

In his 35+ years in the roofing and waterproofing industry, Luke has learned what it takes to keep the weather on the outside of the building, not out of a book but by actually designing, installing and repairing numerous building envelope systems. While in the contracting, supply and consulting sectors of the construction industry, he has learned the strengths and weaknesses of the various envelope components and, most importantly, how they work in concert with each other to create a property envelope systems. His services are used most often by a building owner (private, corporate or government) and/or their property management or facility director. Luke has over 35 years' experience in materials, systems application ,design consulting, and forensic investigation, enabling him to provide insights that singly discipline firms such as architects or engineers cannot. He has performed work in 23 states, Canada and Puerto Rico, and brings a uniquely broad and deep experience to evaluating and understanding building envelope issues.

5.) Rudy Robinson, III, MAI 

Rudy Robinson III, MAI has given hundreds of depositions as an expert witness. He has over forty years’ experience in real estate and appraisal. Mr. Robinson became a real estate broker in the early 1970s, achieved the SRPA designation of the Society of Real Estate Appraisers in 1978 and was awarded the MAI designation by the Appraisal Institute in 1980, and he founded Austin Valuation Consultants in 1989. His background includes a broad range of appraisal, development, brokerage and consulting assignments throughout the United States.  Mr. Robinson specializes in expert witness testimony, and consulting on complex and challenging real estate problems. 

Prior projects include Superfund sites, landfills, hazardous waste incinerators, sites with subsurface contamination, tank farms, golf courses, ski resorts, historic landmarks, power-generating plants, municipal utility districts, mines, quarries, ranches, etc.  He is a Past President of the Dallas, Texas Chapter of the Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA) as well as a past FEWA national board member. Mr. Robinson also has completed Basic Mediation Training through The University of Texas School of Law and has acted as both a mediator and arbitrator in numerous valuation disputes. Mr. Robinson has published in numerous publications including five past articles in the Appraisal Journal.  Throughout his career, he has been involved in hundreds of toxic tort, real property diminution in value claims and eminent domain cases. He has testified for numerous cities, counties, and governmental bodies in County, State and Federal Courts throughout the USA.

6.) Jack Poe, M.Sc., MAI, AI-GRS 

Jack Poe has been a valuation expert for 36 years. Mr. Poe served four years as an appraisal standard writer on the Appraisal Standards Committee of the Appraisal Institute and as one of two US citizens on an International Valuation Standards Council working group to develop International Valuation Standards for Investment Property Valuation. He has a General Review Specialist (AI-GRS) designation from the Appraisal Institute, a Master of Science degree in Real Estate Appraisal from the University of Saint Thomas, an MAI designation from the Appraisal Institute a Texas Real Estate Broker's License, and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Texas at Arlington. Mr. Poe has also served as President of the California not-for-profit Forensic Expert Witness Association (FEWA). He has testified as an expert witness in Federal Courts in Atlanta, Dallas, Tyler and Los Angeles as well as Dallas, Collin, Grayson and Tarrant County Texas District Courts, and Nashville Tennessee Circuit Court. His specialties include routine and litigation support for real estate appraisals. Mr. Poe is a father of five with thirteen grandchildren who with his wife Betsy homeschooled their three youngest daughters. Jack and Betsy built the last two houses they have lived in, and 20 years ago they built on Lake Texoma to attract grandkids. He volunteers at church and as a fireman, and served as Chairman of the Board of the local fire department, was the founding President of the Grayson County Association of Fire Chiefs, and served on the Grayson County Emergency Planning Committee. 7.) Terry C. Taylor, P.E.

Terry Taylor is a Principal Engineer with Haag Engineering Co. He also serves as Branch Manager of the Austin Office and Director or Professional Development for Haag. Mr. Taylor has been employed 34 years with Haag as a civil/structural forensic engineer, and he has performed thousands of assignments as a consulting and testifying expert involving residential, commercial, and industrial structures.
