Chapter Event: Houston
Attendees will learn about the procedures and some of the pitfalls involved in trial preparation.
Attorney Debra Norris will provide an overview of the processes for filing a lawsuit in the proper court; filing of answers, counterclaims, cross-claims, or third-party claims; discovery procedures; admissibility of expert testimony; and the degree of certainty and burden of proof for damages at trial.
The lecture is one hour taking place between 11:30 am - 1:00 pm, with allowance for questions and answers. The presentation is combined with a lunch meeting of FEWA members and guests.
Ms. Norris, a frequent speaker in the construction industry, is an electrical engineer and practicing attorney. Her background includes a ten year career building plants in the oil, gas and chemical industry, and she now represents owners, suppliers, contractors, subcontractors, and design professionals in matters involving resolution of damages, valuations and appraisal disputes in the construction industry.
Debra teaches construction law at the graduate school of civil and environmental engineering in the Cullen College of Engineering at the University of Houston.
Ms. Norris is licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas and the Southern District of Texas. With a ten-year background as an engineer, Debra is available as an arbitrator in a variety of technical disputes.
