President’s Update on the FEWA National Conference

Hello FEWA!

I wanted to take this opportunity to reach out to all of you and let you know that at FEWA, we all hope you are doing well during this unusual year. While I understand that the state of work for all of you may not be the same as it has been in the past, my understanding is that many of the courts and the attorneys have been making adjustments to the way they practice. Here at FEWA, we have had to make many changes to accommodate the new business cycles.

We have found that many of you are still working hard and making sure that you are staying up to date, not only regarding the use of technology but also of changes in the processes which will affect you as an Expert Witness.

To continue serving the Expert Witness community, we have added more webinars, which have been very well received, and seen more and more chapters moving to virtual meetings providing the same high-quality contact as FEWA has been known.

We have also made substantive changes to the National Conference. Originally set for April, we moved to August 28 and 29 to allow for COVID and had hoped that it could still be an in-person meeting. Unfortunately, and understandably, many people do not feel comfortable traveling. Therefore, we have made the entire conference available to you from your home or office virtually. Those that wish to attend in-person can still do so. We have worked with the Texas Justice Center to institute thorough safety protocols. The content of the Conference and the quality of the speakers is very strong, and we believe this may be our best line up. Additionally, on August 27, the Houston Chapter of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA) will be hosting a one-day workshop and mock trial. Both the FEWA National Conference and the ASA workshop are providing CPE, CFLC and MCLE Credits.

While there is a change in the business environment due to COVID, it is still vital that you as an Expert Witness remain up to date with the industry to remain as effective as possible. Please visit the FEWA National Conference page to get more details on the FEWA National Conference and look to the Houston ASA Workshop page to find out more about the Houston ASA chapters workshop and mock trial.

We are here to help you as an expert, and we look forward to having you participate in this amazing conference.

I hope you and your families are healthy and safe during these unusual times and please let me know if you have any questions.

Mitchell Cohen, CPA, CFE, FCPA, CFLC
